Fr. Peter A. Welling Council  13576                Newsletter                August, 2005
GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT
As I reflect on this month, I can understand how many might see August as a month of new beginnings--a new
school year, new football and volleyball seasons, new crops to soon be harvested, new experiences at the local and
State fairs, and for our council, a new fiscal year (which actually started July 1 but isn’t felt until after the Grand
Knight’s Convention in July).   These new beginnings are exciting.  They bring change -- and change is good
because it helps us grow to be the best we can be.  The   K of C is all about helping others reach their potential.  Let’
s continue to help each other grow, which in turn will help our council grow.
Part of our growth success this past year will be celebrated on August 7 at our 1st Annual Awards Banquet.  This
event is to recognize the hard work and achievements of our council.  Let me emphasize that it is not a popularity
contest.  One of the basic human needs given to us by our Divine Creator is the need of recognition, and if we do
not take the time to celebrate success and recognize individual and council efforts, then we will impair our ability to
grow.  I hope you plan on attending.  (More details on the Awards Banquet are elsewhere in this newsletter).  May
God Bless Our Council!                                                                                                                      - Grand Knight,
Tom Albin

FAMILY of the MONTH – The Bob & Karen Kelty Family
Bob and Karen have been married for 28 years and have two daughters, Juliet and Victoria.  Bob works for the
University of Nebraska Dep’t of Physics & Astronomy as an Electrical Engineer. Karen is a Secretary for the USDA
Natural Resources Conservation Services. They have been St. Patrick’s parish members since 1986. Prior to that,
they were members of St. John's. They were past co-treasurers of the Pius Band Boosters for 4 years and were part
of the St. Patrick's Godparents program for 4 years.  Bob has been Knight since October 1995. He was previously a
member of Council 833. He served for many years as Recorder and Church Director.  He is currently our Council’s
Financial Secretary and a 4th Degree Knight.  Bob's father, John O. Kelty, is a 4th Degree Knight in Louisville, KY.

KNIGHT of the MONTH – JIM PETRZILKA
James (Jim) J. Petrzilka is a charter member of Father Peter A. Welling council.  Jim is a life-long member of St
Patrick's.  His parish activism is a testament to the good example set by his parents, Joe & Leona.   Jim, his lady
Mindy, and his children Sara and Andy, are true assets to our parish family.  They are very active and willing
volunteers in all aspects of parish life.  In addition to being Council 13576 Recorder,  Jim is involved in Parish
Council,  Men's Club,  Stars Event,  St. Pat's Festival, & more!  In his “spare” time Jim manages Petrzilka
Construction!   If you can catch him in an idle moment (good luck!), please offer Jim  your congratulations as our
Knight of the Month for August.
Between the house and the store are little pockets of happiness. A bird, a garden, a child’s smile, a cat in the
sunshine needing stroked. Recognize them or ignore them.   It’s always up to you.        - Pam Brown

Have you heard the expression “lazy days of summer”? While hot weather may encourage a slower paced life, in
many ways summer can be the busiest time of the year. This is especially true for parents of school-aged children.
Being busy, it’s easy to forget about such things as reviewing your life insurance coverage.
The purpose of this column is to encourage you to meet with me, your Knights of Columbus agent, before the end of
the summer.  Whether or not you have life insurance with the Order, I’ll be happy to meet with you and make sure
your coverage continues to meet your needs and goals.  If you’ve had any life changes since you last bought a
policy (new home, new child, new job, etc.), chances are your life insurance needs to be updated.  I’ll work with you
to make sure you have the coverage you need at a price you can afford.
Call me to set up an appointment.  When we meet, you’ll discover that time spent with your Knights of Columbus
agent is time well-spent.  But, make the call today.  Because summer is not only busy, it’s also coming to an end.
Call me.

It is important that all officers & their wives attend the upcoming Awards Banquet. We will have an official Officer
Installation Ceremony utilizing our new Council jewels.  Also, please RSVP to Al Schrader at 467-3784 if you haven’t
done so already.  An RSVP of “yes” is non-refundable as we have to pick up the cost of the meal for “no shows”.  If
you can help set up for the banquet, we will meet in the school gym on that Sunday @ 1:00 PM
