Fr. Peter A. Welling Council 13576 Newsletter March, 2006 GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT Dear Brother Knights, I like March because it is the month Spring begins. It also brings me pleasure in partaking in the “March Madness” of the basketball season. A special thank you to all the Knights who helped with the Soup and Sandwich Recruitment Social on Sunday, 2-19-06. We had approximately 20 Knights attend with their wives. We received one transfer, Kevin (Diane) Neujahr, who attended. He is transferring from the York, NE council and lives in Waverly. Please introduce yourself to him at your earliest convenience and welcome his family to our Council and our Parish. We hope to also welcome the 3 other prospects whom attended into our Council in the near future. Overall, it was a successful event. Please come and help clean up after the St. Pat’s Festival on Sunday, 3-19, after the 11:30am Mass. The Knights have volunteered for this time slot. Also, if you can help with the festival in any other area, give brother Jim Wilkerson a call at 476-3365. Our Spring Pancake Feed is coming up on April 23rd. More information to follow in next month’s newsletter and at the general meetings. Remember to fast and abstain on Ash Wednesday and abstain on all Friday’s of Lent. Please pray for God’s blessings to help you sacrifice and do more for Him this Lenten season. May God Bless our Council and your family. - Grand Knight, Tom Albin KNIGHT of the MONTH Check the April Newsletter for March’s Knight of the Month When you get to your wit’s end, you will find God lives there MOVIE NIGHT If your’re looking for an inspirational movie that the whole family can enjoy together,”Therese, Ordinary Girl, Extraordinary Soul”, the Story of Saint Therese of Lisieux, is now available for rental at most local rental outlets. COULD WE CHANGE YOUR POSITION on THAT? Why do we keep changing positions during Mass ? Is there a special meaning to the sitting, standing and kneeling that we do? When we pray we try to use our minds, hearts, souls and bodies. This was true in Jesus' day as well. When Jesus taught, it was customary for Him to sit with those He was teaching. Back then, most prayers were said standing. But when the occasion was very solemn (serious), or the prayer was very urgent or important, then it was customary for the person praying to kneel or prostrate themselves (stretched out, face down, on the ground). These practices were handed down to us from Jesus and his Disciples. So we sit during parts of the Mass where we are being taught, stand during parts of the Mass where we are especially prayerful. And for the times during Mass when we are most solemn and serious, we kneel. LENTEN REGULATIONS for the DIOCESE of LINCOLN 2006 Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Spouse’s Rights Add to Policy Benefits The laws and rules of our Order, as well as state and provincial laws, specify that the Knights of Columbus may accept applications from members only. The member may apply for insurance on himself, his wife, and his minor children. However, the Order’s Board of Directors has taken actions to assure that Knight’s widows maintain the right to purchase additional insurance for a limited time period. This is a great benefit for those we leave behind. This “right-to-apply” is available only to the widows of insured members. If a Knight has not availed himself of our highly rated life insurance program, or purchased an annuity or a long term care policy, this benefit is not available to his widow. But if the Knight was an insured member, his widow has the “right-to-apply” for additional insurance on her life and on the lives of his minor children. This right must be exercised within one year following the insured’s death. As a professional agent, I will always work with the widow in the settlement process of the member’s death claims and I will assist her in any way possible. Should a need for life insurance, an annuity, or long term care be identified during that one-year period, this additional “Spouse’s Right” allows the widow to purchase that product from the Knights of Columbus. If you are an insured member, rest easy knowing your widow will have this right.
