GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT
Dear Brother Knights,
I like March because it is the month Spring begins.  It also brings me pleasure in partaking in the “March
Madness” of the basketball season.  A special thank you to all the Knights who helped with the Soup and Sandwich
Recruitment Social on Sunday, 2-19-06.  We had approximately 20 Knights attend with their wives.  We received
one transfer, Kevin (Diane) Neujahr, who attended.  He is transferring from the York, NE council and lives in
Waverly.  Please introduce yourself to him at your earliest convenience and welcome his family to our Council and
our Parish.  We hope to also welcome the 3 other prospects whom attended into our Council in the near future.
Overall, it was a successful event.
Please come and help clean up after the St. Pat’s Festival on Sunday, 3-19, after the 11:30am Mass.  The
Knights have volunteered for this time slot.  Also, if you can help with the festival in any other area, give brother Jim
Wilkerson a call at 476-3365.
Our Spring Pancake Feed is coming up on April 23rd.  More information to follow in next month’s newsletter and
at the general meetings.
Remember to fast and abstain on Ash Wednesday and abstain on all Friday’s of Lent.  Please pray for God’s
blessings to help you sacrifice and do more for Him this Lenten season.
May God Bless our Council and your family.  -  Grand Knight,   Tom Albin

FAMILY    of   the   MONTH   for   FEBRUARY
The  JIM PETRZILKA Family
Jim is a 3rd Degree Knight and a charter member of our Council.  Despite their busy home and work schedules, he
and his wife, Mindy, are often seen around the Parish and the School lending a hand.  They have two children:
Sarah, a 6th Grader @ St. Patrick’s School is involved in activities such as Girl Scouts and Volleyball; and Andy, a
4th Grader @ St. Patrick’s School enjoys basketball, fishing, and spending time camping with his family.  Jim himself
is a St. Patrick’s School Alum, having graduated some 20 years ago.
Outside of the Church, Jim runs his own business, Petrzilka Construction (a business sponsor of our newsletter) and
Mindy works for State Farm Insurance.  Jim holds many Offices within our Parish and donates countless hours for
the school.  Some of his time is spent: as Recorder for our KofC Council, Secretary for St. Patrick’s Men’s Club, and
Snow Removal Coordinator.  He has been on the Parish Council for 7 years and has held various positions,
including his current position in Buildings and Grounds and he serves as an Usher @ Sunday Mass.  Jim donates
time, talent, and treasures to virtually every fund-raising event  of our Church and our School.  He is currently
tackling a renovation effort of a “science room” for St. Patrick’s School.
Mindy is on the Home & School Association Board serving her second term as Treasurer.  She too helps our Parish
and School in any way she can.

The Day of the Unborn Child - March 25, 2006  (Mass on March 24th,  6:00pm)
The “Day of the Unborn Child” is a tradition of the International Order of the KofC and the Order’s “Crusade for

building the culture of life through faithful citizenship & civic activity.

COULD WE CHANGE
YOUR POSITION on THAT?
Why do we keep changing positions during Mass ? Is there a special meaning to the sitting, standing and kneeling
that we do?
When we pray we try to use our minds, hearts, souls and bodies. This was true in Jesus' day as well. When Jesus
taught, it was customary for Him to sit with those He was teaching. Back then, most prayers were said standing. But
when the occasion was very solemn (serious), or the prayer was very urgent or important, then it was customary for
the person praying to kneel or prostrate themselves (stretched out, face down, on the ground). These practices
were handed down to us from Jesus and his Disciples. So we sit during parts of the Mass where we are being
taught, stand during parts of the Mass where we are especially prayerful. And for the times during Mass when we
are most solemn and serious, we kneel.

Spouse’s Rights Add  to Policy Benefits
The laws and rules of our Order, as well as state and provincial laws, specify that the Knights of Columbus may
accept applications from members only.  The member may apply for insurance on himself, his wife, and his minor
children.
However, the Order’s Board of Directors has taken actions to assure that Knight’s widows maintain the right to
purchase additional insurance for a limited time period.  This is a great benefit for those we leave behind.  This
“right-to-apply” is available only to the widows of insured members.  If a Knight has not availed himself of our highly
rated life insurance program, or purchased an annuity or a long term care policy, this benefit is not available to his
widow.  But if the Knight was an insured member, his widow has the “right-to-apply” for additional insurance on her
life and on the lives of his minor children.  This right must be exercised within one year following the insured’s
death.  As a professional agent, I will always work with the widow in the settlement process of the member’s death
claims and I will assist her in any way possible.  Should a need for life insurance, an annuity, or long term care be
identified during that one-year period, this additional “Spouse’s Right” allows the widow to purchase that product
from the Knights of Columbus.
If you are an insured member, rest easy knowing your widow will have this right.  If you’re not call         Manuel S
"Manny" Gallardo, FICF
