Fr. Peter A. Welling Council 13576 Newsletter May, 2006 GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT Dear Brother Knights, God’s blessings to all of you this Easter Season. It is also the time of the year when most parishes are preparing for the Sacrament of First Communion for their 2nd Graders. I can’t help but reflect on the fact that my 2nd son, Daniel, will be making his First Communion on Sunday, April 30th. He made his First Confession this past Saturday and handled it quite well. It is very heartening to see the spiritual excitement in his behavior the past few weeks. How valuable the innocence of children is and how rewarding to see him work to deepen his faith (with some parental prodding along the way, of course). It reminds me of my First Communion many moons ago and that the journey of faith never ends. Please pray for him and the rest of our parish 2nd Graders as they take a big next step on their faith journey. I want to thank all the Brother Knights who helped sell Tootsie Rolls at HyVee and after each Mass on Palm Sunday. Also, a BIG thanks to all the Brother Knights who helped make our 2nd Annual Spring Pancake Feed a success. We grossed $1,037 and served approximately 226 people. It couldn’t be done without everyone pitching in and working as a team. Gentlemen, take a bow. It is that time of year to elect new officers. Although a slate of nominations to promote up some of our existing officers through acclamation has been received, any nomination for an officer position will be accepted from the floor. Please try to attend the May and June meetings in order to be an active voice in electing our Council leadership. -Fraternally in Christ, Grand Knight, Tom Albin FAMILY of the MONTH for MAY The DAVID SCHMIT Family Our “Family of the Month” for May, 2006, is the Dave & Maggie Schmit Family. Dave & Maggie are known for being very giving people. They often share of their time, talents, and fellowship in the betterment of our Parish Family. Dave, being a master of woodworking, has donated countless handcrafted cedar chests to be used as raffle prizes and auction items for numerous St. Patrick’s fundraisers, including the S.T.A.R.S Event. Among other parish activities, Maggie is active in Altar Society, Matt Talbot Kitchen, the St. Patrick’s Festival, Garage Sale, and the S.T.A.R.S Event. Although their children are grown, they can still be spotted at various St. Patrick’s School fundraisers such as the RUNZA Night and Family Fun Night. Their five grown children and eight grandchildren include: Mark lives in Waverly and has 2 children; Kristy lives in Lincoln and has 2 children. She is married to Craig Arent, a 4th Degree Knight and our Council’s Chancellor; Michael serves in the Air Force and lives in Florida with his wife, Kendra, and has 2 children; Kevin lives in Lincoln. He and his wife, Adie, have one daughter, Daisy, and their second child will arrive in June; and Dave & Maggie’s daughter, Lori, has been called home to be with the Lord. Time and time again, Dave and his family step up to help with the events in our Parish that we all enjoy. Thank you, for all that you do, Dave & Magge!!! - Family Director, Terry Ryan 4th Degree Assembly All 3rd Degree Brother Knights are invited to consider membership in the Bishop Kucera 4th Degree Assembly. The afternoon is really a tribute to the contributions Catholics have made to the settlement and development of the United States. As one hears of the contributions of Catholic explorers, captains of industry, patrons of the arts and sciences, it makes one proud to be a Catholic American. In addition to highlighting the contributions of Catholics to America, the 4th Degree is another commitment that Catholic men make to the Church. 4th Degree Knights make a commitment to serve the Church publicly. Their participation in civic and ecclesial events is a great example of their involvement in the Church. I encourage any 3rd Degree Member to consider becoming a Member of the 4th Degree. - REV. But did you know that our insurance program is an essential part of the Order? Protecting families from economic adversity has been a key part of the Knights of Columbus’ mission since it’s founding in 1882. Our founder passed the hat to support the widows & children of deceased Brother Knights. We’ve grown into one of the largest individual life insurers in North America – with more than $52 billion of individual life insurance in force. Moreover, contrary to some misconceptions, our insurance program is not directed in any way by a “separate company”. Nor has it ever been. Our insurance is available exclusively to members, their wives, & their dependent children. All field agents are Brother Knights. They work full-time for the Knights of Columbus serving the needs of you & your family. They are available at all times to answer your questions on life insurance, Long Term Care Protection, annuities, IRAs, & other financial matters. In this day & age, personal attention is rare – but in the Knights of Columbus, we specialize in it. In fact, it’s the Field Agent’s job to get to know you & your family, and to be available to you for assistance. We are different from other insurers – and that difference greatly benefits our members. Call me to find out how the Knights of Columbus is “Making a Difference for Life”. - Manuel S "Manny" Gallardo, FICF (402)423-0250 -or- mgallardo@neb.rr.com Visit our website @ www.stpatknights.org Please thank our Newsletter Sponsors (advertised on this page) with your patronage GET READY for some FAMILY FUN JUNE 11th 4 pm – 8 pm Mahoney City Park (70th & Fremont) Open Shelter #2 St Patrick’s Knights of Columbus SUMMER PICNIC Knights and their families should bring their own table setting (plates, silverware, cups) Beverages will be provided Last Names A-K : bring a dessert Last Names L-Z: bring a salad / side dish ALL: bring a main dish PLEASE BRING Sports Equipment, Outdoor Games, and Lawn Chairs Call Terry Ryan @ 466-7115 with questions |
