Fr. Peter A. Welling Council 13576 Newsletter October, 2005 GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT A BIG THANK YOU to all the Brother Knights and wives who helped with the UN-L Football and Volleyball Concessions. We made $400 for the Volleyball Concessions and $360 on the Football Concessions. Please pray that we get more opportunities like this and I will keep you posted if any come our way. A special Thanks to Pat and Stephanie Voichahoske for all their efforts with the K of C Fall Yard Sale and Fair. A tremendous amount of effort went into this and I am happy to report that our net profit was $108.00. More importantly, the 4th Graders raised $304.20 for Hurricane Katrina relief, and the Teachers and Staff raised $400 for the school. With this experience under our belt, we should be poised to have another successful event next year. Approximately 30 Knights and their families attended Mass at the Holy Family Shrine near Gretna on September 24th. Father Faulkner celebrated Mass and then one of the Head Caretakers of the facility told us about the Shrine’s history and how several miracles have been experienced by people visiting there. Most of those in attendance went to brunch at Mahoney State Park and everyone had a good time. We have approximately 16 Brother Knights in our Council who have not been fully Knighted in the 2nd and/or 3rd Degrees. A great opportunity to accomplish this will be on Sunday, October 9th, at the Newman Center on the UN-L Campus. Also, all prospective Knights are welcome to attend. You will be contacted so that we can send attendance figures to the Newman Center Council. Please be receptive and cordial to the Brother Knight who contacts you. Please circle Sunday, November 6th, on your calendar as that is our 2nd Annual Fall Pancake Feed. We will also try to have a Membership Table set up with brochures at the Feed so that prospective members can get information and meet Brother Knights. Dave Densler will also be coordinating the Sale of K of C Christmas cards at the Feed. We need volunteers to help with the 3-on-3 Basketball Tourney on October 28th, 29th, and 30th. Please contact Kevin Landwehr @ 464-4794 or Mike Hosek @ 742-3880 if you can help. There will also be a sign-up sheet at the meeting. Please keep our District Deputy John Nelson in your prayers as he will be hospitalized the week of October 3rd – 7th. May God Bless Our Council! - Grand Knight, Tom Albin “Happiness does not exist in having what you want, but in wanting what you have” - Confucious LUNCHEON COMMITTEE If you have questions regarding committee duties, please contact Michael Fujan @ (402) 730-1382. This fund is administered by “Knights of Columbus Charities”. 100% of contributions go directly toward hurricane relief, and all donations are tax-deductible. Mike is an acolyte @ St. Patrick’s and both he & Eileen are integral in making sure the St. Patrick’s Festival runs smoothly each year. They both, also, have chaired committees for the “Engaged Encounter” Program. Many Waverly Community projects have also benefited from Mike & Eileen’s “endless energy”. The couple has has five sons, including two sets of twins! Andrew, the oldest, is an Eagle Scout and serves as an Altar Boy @ St. Patrick’s Church. His brother, Thomas, recently painted the lines in the parking lot @ St. Pat’s as a part of his Eagle Scout project. Thanks, again, Tom! He and his twin brother, Patrick, also serve as Altar Boys. Patrick is working toward completing his Eagle Scout Project, as well. The two youngest boys, Phil and John are in the Cub Scouts. Why the big Scouting interest? Thank you, for all you do, Mike!!! K of C CORE OF ETHICS & GOLDEN RULE There are many fine Life Insurance companies in the marketplace. So, why entrust your Life Insurance needs and those of your family to the Knights of Columbus? In a recent lecture at Yale University, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson summed it up this way: “Our core values permeate all levels of our marketing program. Our “Marketing Code of Ethics” is modeled after the Ten Commandments and includes statements such as, “Thou shall present honestly and accurately, all facts necessary to enable a member to make an informed decision.” Our ethical principals for marketing are summed up by our Golden Rule: “In all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the following rule of conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions surrounding those I serve, render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself. “ That’s what you can expect from your Knights of Columbus Agent. I’ll be happy to meet with you, at your convenience, to honestly and accurately present all facts necessary for you to make an informed decision. I promise to render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself. Please, give me a call.
