Fr. Peter A. Welling Council 13576 Newsletter September, 2005 GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT Congratulations, again, to all those Brother Knights who were recognized or received awards at our Council Awards Banquet on August 7th! District Deputy John Nelson informed us at our Banquet that we received the Star Council Award, and I received the official notification in my monthly “Knightline” Newsletter that I get. It listed all the councils that achieved awards from Supreme. Way to go and nice work, Brothers! We have a lot of exciting events coming up this fraternal year. We mapped out most of them at our most recent Officer’s meeting. A new social event and combination fundraiser will be our first Council Pitch Tourney on Friday, Sep. 9, at 7:30pm in the church basement. If we get a lot of people, we will move it to the gym. Most everyone likes to play 10-point pitch and it will be a lot of fun. Please bring your spouse and friends and plan to have a good time. Our local St. Pat’s Cub Scout Pack #79 will host an Open House on Thursday, Sep. 15th, from 6-8:00 PM. If you know any boys ages 6 to 12 who have too much energy to stay at home, please bring them to this forum to learn what scouting is all about. Hopefully, they will sign up. The pack has only 5 boys and they need more to remain chartered. Our local scoutmaster is Paul Fujan (a future Knight I might add). I can attest that the boys have a great time and they learn a lot. The Cathedral Council 9563 has asked us to help with concessions at the Sep. 10 & 17 Nebraska Football Games. A big thank you to those that volunteered. They may ask us to fill in at more games, so if you are still interested, please let me know. We may get short-notice calls for help and it would be helpful to know who is interested. Please pray for our soldiers in Iraq and for all those individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Katrina. May God Bless Our Council! - Grand Knight, Tom Albin FROM our FINANCIAL SECRETARY In recruiting new members, realize that your responsibility does not end there. You are your Brother’s keeper! As Proposer, you must take the responsibility to see that your recruit becomes fully accepted by his fellow Council Members and becomes involved in Council Activities. Explain to our new Brother Knight that the Council will examine his qualifications for membership and will vote to accept him into the Council. Attend the First Degree with him. See that he knows what the annual dues are (no less than $12 if starting after July and $25 due annually thereafter on January 1). Tell him of the initiation fee ($15) and what the fees are used for ($1 to Catholic advertising/$8.76 to State/$3.50 to Supreme/balance to local Council Activities). The initiation fee pays for his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Degrees. See that he learns Council procedures such as meeting times, committee assignments, etc… Introduce him and his family at Council events. If they have any questions that you cannot answer, visit with one of the Officers or call me anytime. Also…If you are not receiving The Courier or Columbia Magazine, please let me know so that State or Supreme records may be corrected. Thank You.- John R.
